Maja On RockMaja is a Brisbane based singer-songwriter, whose raw and passionate vocals navigate the nuances of soul, folk and blues. Her Serbian background and deeply personal, honest song-writing will get your head thinking and your toes tapping. Accompanied by various instrumental sidekicks with inventive arrangements, she is gaining a notorious reputation in the Brisbane music scene for her thought-provoking performances. Her fast-paced wit, eccentric character and quirky stage presence add to her unique act and style of music.

Last year, Maja completed her studies in Music Composition at the University of Queensland, where she received First Class Honours and a number of Dean Recommendations for Academic Excellence in Music.  In her first two years of University, she studied piano before focusing her efforts on writing music by pursuing a major in composition under the tutelage of Robert Davidson. During this time, she wrote music for choir, piano, and stringed instruments. Last year, her chorale piece “Place Far from our Home” was premiered at the UQ Art Gallery and was received with high acclaim. She also performed at the Woodford Folk Festival with her folk trio as part of Andrew Clermont’s Supper Club.

This year, Maja released her much-anticipated first single, "Treat Me Right", a hard-hitting soul number channelling the likes of Otis Redding and Etta James. In 2016, Maja will be announcing her latest single, "The Dreamer", which will feature as part of Maja's self-titled EP due to be released early this year. Eclectric in genre, the EP features lush string textures and driving rhythms that compliment Maja's heart-felt vocla melodies.
